On September 11, Reuters reported that the European Union had abandoned a planned 15% export duty on aluminum scrap, a measure that had been considered to protect Europe's aluminum smelting and recycling industry and reduce the outflow of recyclable metal.

The decision came after concerns that the measure could complicate the EU's trade relationship with India, one of the largest buyers of European aluminum scrap.
